DOSAGE
Cattle
For the induction of anesthesia:
With xylazine: Xylazine 0.14 – 0.22 mg/Kg pv IV/IM, followed by Ketamine 2 - 5 mg/Kg pv IV (2 - 5 ml/100 Kg pv).
Pigs
For the induction of anesthesia:
With azaperone: Ketamine 15 – 20 mg/Kg pv IM (1.5 – 2 ml/10 Kg) and 2 mg/Kg pv azaperone IM.
Horses
For the induction of anesthesia:
With detomidine: Detomidine 20 µg/Kg pv IV, after 5 minutes Ketamine 2.2 mg/Kg pv fast IV (2.2 ml/100 Kg pv).
With xylazine: Xylazine 1.1 mg/Kg pv IV, followed by Ketamine 2.2 mg/Kg pv IV (2.2 ml/100 Kg pv).
Dogs
For induction of anaesthesia:
With medetomidine: Medetomidine 40 µg/Kg pv IM, followed by Ketamine 5 – 7.5 mg/Kg pv IM (0.5 – 0.75 ml/10 Kg pv).
With xylazine: Xylazine 2 mg/Kg pv IM, after 10 minutes, Ketamine 10 mg/Kg pv IM (1 ml/10 Kg pv). In dogs over 25 Kg pv reduce the dose of xylazine to 1.3 mg/Kg pv
With diazepam: Diazepam 0.25 mg/Kg pv IV, immediately followed by Ketamine 5 mg/Kg pv IV (0.5 ml/ 10 Kg pv).
Cats
As a single agent: 11 mg/Kg pv of ketamine IM/IV for minor immobilization, 22 - 33 mg/Kg pv of ketamine IM/IV for minor surgery and immobilization of irritable cats.
